    Chamber Festivals & Economic Development
These two things do go together

An annual destination, a showcase event for our region.
A signature event, a major nationally recognized outdoor festival.
    A strong economic engine.
A tourism revenue generator orchestrated by local residents.
An event focused on attracting new attention, new people and additional revenue.
An event that invites participants and spectators from across the nation.
An event that plays to the strengths and attributes of our stunning natural resources, our local hospitality, and our easy-going way of life.

We are of course talking about none other than the Dirty Dancing Festival!
Taken over by your HNG Chamber in 2016, the event features a weekend of dancing, music, games, food, and of course, the famous Lake Life competition.
The event is aggressively promoted well in advance of the late summer time affair.
It is advertised in print and electronic media, and nationally promoted via social media. The event attracts scores of families and fans of the 1987 film classic, this year celebrating its 30th anniversary since capturing the hearts of millions across the world. In many ways, the festival serves as a gateway introduction to visitors that may have never been to Lake Lure.
“It’s an opportunity to showcase our unlimited recreational opportunities and to feature our businesses and the unique characteristics of the five towns that make up Hickory Nut Gorge,” said Chamber Executive Director, Tommy Hartzog.
The economic impact of the Dirty Dancing Festival
Comprising a multitude of activities and attractions and enticing visitors throughout two solid days, the event has enormous potential to bring in thousands of dollars into the Gorge in the way of lodging, dining and shopping.
Driven by consistent marketing and positive publicity from the McConnell Group Public Relations Firm, the yearlyevent promises to deliver new awareness of the many reasons to visit and keep returning to our unique vacation and recreation destinations.
